We take on digital production jobs in the public sector, for charities and for not for profit organisations where small budgets need to go further and where timescales can be more flexible and where innovative new approaches are required. We take on our best performing under-graduates and graduates and link them with a professional mentor to produce an excellent digital product to your agreed brief.
It’s really important to us within this University to produce a students who can ‘hit the ground running’ when they move on from their course and this Working Academy scheme gives them the opportunity to work with you on a real commission, with hopefully a good reference from you about a real project they have undertaken.
Please be aware….We are not an alternative to an existing web development firm, digital agency or video production company. If you have a commercial business need with appropriate budget you should be commissioning a professional agency to undertake this work. We have plenty of recommendations in the region and nationally that our graduates are now working at, that we’d be happy to steer you towards.
We have worked a lot with different departments at the Council, for the Hospital & Care Trust, for various Charities across the region, with Schools & Colleges, with not for profit organisations like Health Watch and City of Film) and with companies wishing to develop some R&D project that is separate to their main core business. We have also worked collaboratively with media organisations like the BBC and Press Association, with arts organisations like Freedom Studios and Alchemy and with government backed schemes like Prevent or Unltd.
We always like to work closely with the person at the organisation who is commissioning the project. Initially face to face and then by using some of the project management tools available like DropBox and Basecamp. We want to make sure that we understand what you want and keep you closely informed as we progress with your project.
The projects we take on are not an assessed part of the student’s course work….the project can only be first class or we don’t hand it over to you. So because it is a professionally commissioned project we charge a small budget which pays the student team for their time (capped at the outset of the project) and to cover insurances, transport costs and any necessary admin (compliances, release forms, copyright, etc). We would discuss this with you at the outset and hope to always find a way to work within any reasonable constraints.
We agree a proper Brief with you that forms the commissioning document that the students selected will use to start work on the project. They agree milestones and review dates with you in keeping with your deadlines.
