WHY GET INVOLVED?

Getting proper industry experience of commissioned work is key to future employment. Whether freelance or for a company, clients always want to see your last job and what the person commissioning it said about you. The Working Academy is a scheme at the University which enables you to get this experience…all be it within a supportive environment where experienced professionals can guide you through the project management. Benefits of this scheme are;

PAID FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL WORK | REAL INDUSTRY COMMISSION | EXPERIENCE OF LIAISING WITH CLIENTS | FANTASTIC EXAMPLES FOR YOUR SHOWREEL / CV

Do remember that as a full time student you only should be working for up to a maximum of a day and a half on other work outside your course, so these are part-time freelance opportunities, not full time work.

WHAT PROJECTS AND JOBS ARE THERE?

See the homepage of this Working academy website for examples of the projects and disciplines we take on. More specifically the job roles we are often looking for are;

  • Self-shooting director / camera operator
  • Sound and lighting specialists
  • Production Manager
  • Post-production Editor
  • Digital designer / SFX
  • Animator
  • Web development
  • Database developer
  • Mobile app designer

Most projects we take on will involve you working as a team with other student ‘professionals’, so good communication skills are essential. It goes without saying that you must be highly dependable. The University and clients expect nothing less.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED?

We often take recommendations from academic and technical support staff who have spotted exceptional students that are working very well on their course. You can though put yourself forward for consideration. To do so please contact Andrew or Simon through the contact information opposite. You will need an example or two of your recent work that you feel proud of to talk through at interview.
